Jacques Rudolph made 22 but the innings was dominated by Younus, a century maker in the first innings he went through to his second innings ton from 103 balls with 12 fours. On Rudolph's departure to Stuart Clark, Brophy came in and continued his good form of late. and at tea Yorkshire had moved on to 319 for 4.

After the interval Younus and Brophy continued to bat superbly. Younus went through to a double century 290 balls and Brophy playing a spectacular innings made his first Yorkshire ton from 115 balls. They had put on an unbroken 194 when Gough declared at 439 for 4 leaving Hampshire to make 443 to win.

Hampshire had nine overs batting to the close and Yorkshire's great day was complete when first innings century maker Brown was caught behind by Brophy off Gillespie for 8. Close of play 16-1.
